Showing the boot up times of Google Chrome OS, Windows 7, and Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix. Chrome OS is the fastest by far, though I should note that Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 are not clean installs, so it may be faster. Also, Chrome OS is running off of a USB flash drive. Chrome OS: ~27 seconds Windows 7: ~55 seconds Ubuntu: ~50 seconds Hardware is an Asus EEE PC 1000he netbook (bit.ly 1.66 ghz Atom CPU 2 GB ram 5400 RPM hd (i think) I wrote up some directions on how to make your own bootable USB drive to run Chrome OS so you can give it a try: bit.ly If you have questions, leave a comment or twitter me at twitter.com

@nvanadium
I’ll proudly suggest Ubuntu 9. 04, I had a little problems with the Ubuntu 9. 10 that’s why I’m not suggesting it but the previous one is great. I returned to it (9. 04) and can tell you that I install it to my little brother Inspiron-mini and works great, all drivers worked and of course 300% faster than the xp home edition. .
Any questions, how to boot from live USB or anything dont hesitate to ask

Looks like it took nearly 15 seconds for Windows 7 to shut down, and something like 7 seconds for Ubuntu to shut down.

What are you smoking. Google OS is based off GNU/LInux which has been around since the 80’s. Google OS is going to be awesome.

I think that Chrome OS is going to serve a different purpose than Windows. I can see myself using Chrome OS on a netbook to just access the web. If I want to do heavier computing (photo editing, games, etc), I’ll reach for my Windows computer.

Google took 1 year to make an os. . . Windows spent over 20. . . Hmmm. . . . . . Windows is always going to be better.
February 10th, 2010 at 5:23 am
haha, i love it how google claims its the fastest when my mac boots os x in 15secs and ubuntu 9. 1 (after some grub tweaks) 11secs (24secs with out tweaks). plus you get a full os with even windows.
google can sucks on my macbooks balls

I would go for Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I tried out moblin last year and it’s a little buggy, not as feature complete as Ubuntu.
You could always try out both yourself, they’re free.

Thanks for posting the video. I’m trying to find out which OS is best for my Dell Mini 10v (XP is a bit sluggish). Thinking maybe either Moblin or Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Any suggestions anyone?
